Recyclemania challenge continues

Recyclemania is underway and will continue through April 2. During this time, Gannon will be measuring and reporting its recycling and waste production to compete in this nationwide collegiate challenge aimed at increasing our recycling awareness and participation. Faculty and staff can do their part by making a conscious effort to recycle paper, bottles, cans and plastics. So instead of throwing those items out, please place them in the proper bin.

Gannon to host graduate open house

Gannon University will host a Graduate Open House for individuals hoping to take the next step in their career or pursue an advanced degree. The Open House will run from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, April 3 in Room 101 of the Zurn Science Center. Registration will begin at 11:45 a.m.

Attendees will be able to learn more about Gannon’s graduate programs and meet with program directors and representatives from admissions and financial aid. Editor-in-chief applications available

Applications are available for the position of editor-in-chief of The Gannon Knight for the 2011-2012 school year. The form can be obtained by e-mailing Abby Badach, current editor-in-chief, at [email protected]. Applications are due to Frank Garland, adviser of The Knight, in Palumbo 3229 no later than 5 p.m. Friday, April 1.

Afterward, The Gannon Knight adviser and the current editor-in-chief will arrange an interview with each candidate to discuss the written application in person and ask further questions.  Contact The Knight staff at [email protected] with questions or for further information.

University to host Asian Festival

Gannon Universty will host the Erie Asian Pacific American Forum’s annual Asian Festival from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 2 at the Hammermill Center. The event is designed to promote a greater understanding of cultural diversity as well as Erie’s many and varied Asian cultures. The event will feature ethnic artifacts, artwork, handicrafts and performances from several Asian countries as well as various ethnic foods. Attendees also will be treated to traditional dance and music representative of numerous Asian countries. The event also will include activities and demonstrations for children.

Maroon and Gold award submissions

Please consider nominating deserving faculty, staff and administrative members who demonstrate exceptional effort in supporting our students. The nomination form and an explanation of the awards can be found at: http://my.gannon.edu/special/NSS/Maroon_&_Gold_Award_form.pdf. Gannon to hold celebration for Garibaldi

On April 7, the University will host a special celebration for Dr. Antoine and Mrs. Carol Garibaldi. The celebration is free and open to the public and will be held from 3:30-6:30 p.m. in the Yehl Ballroom. Please mark your calendars as we acknowledge and thank Dr. Garibaldi for his nearly 10 years of exemplary and distinguished service to Gannon. RSVPs are not required. Scholarship opportunities available

The Financial Aid Office is offering two scholarships. The Commonwealth “Good Citizen” Scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate students with extraordinary commitment to community service. One application will be selected by the Financial Aid Committee to be submitted to the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania (AICUP). Applications can be obtained in the Financial Aid Office and must be submitted no later than 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 11.

The Office is also offering the McLean Scholarship for nursing and physician assistant majors. Applicants must be a full time undergraduate student enrolled in a nursing or physician assistant program and have at least a 3.0 grade point average. Applications can be obtained in the Financial Aid Office and must be submitted no later than Monday, April 11.
