Graduate Fair upcoming
Career Development and Employment Services will host the Graduate and Professional School Fair from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Yehl Ballroom.
If you are considering continuing your education into a graduate or professional program, come out to the fair and gather some more information to plan your post-undergraduate life.
Submit essays for a greener Gannon
The deadline for the Greening Gannon essay contest is 5 p.m. Wednesday. Essay submissions should be emailed to Dr. Ann Bomberger at [email protected].
Participating students should write a 400- to 500-word prompt on one specific change an individual at Gannon or the university should adopt to conserve the Earth’s resources.
The top two chosen essays will be published in the Perspective section of The Gannon Knight.
The first-place prize winner will receive $100, and the second-place winner will receive $50.
Gannon retiree passes
The Gannon community mourns the passing of Mary Sue Smith, whose duties included associate professor of nursing, interim chair of the Villa Maria School of Nursing and director of the Advising Center.
Dr. Thomas Ostrowski, a political science professor and former university interim president, offered some words of remembrance.
Ostrowski said that Smith had a calming presence, which was instrumental in smoothing the transition when Villa Maria College combined with Gannon University.
He said that the women who attend Gannon today stand on her shoulders, and the men who attend Gannon owe the better environment partially to her.
Justice Department awards grant
The U.S. Department of Justice has awarded Gannon University a grant totaling $298,638, intended to create a series of initiatives aimed at reducing instances of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking and harassment.
The grant will fund several operations to decrease on-campus violence against women, including the establishment of a violence prevention program, more educational and awareness events and furthering the partnership between Gannon and the Erie County District Attorney’s office, the Crime Victim Center of Erie County and SafeNet.
Campus fraternity plans fundraiser
The Gannon chapter of Zeta Beta Tau will hold a fundraiser through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in which the brothers will take turns rolling an oversized ball – 6 feet in diameter – around campus.
The fraternity has set a goal to raise $2,000 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
Gannon students and faculty wishing to donate to the fundraiser will be allowed to sign the ball with a donation of 25 cents or more.
Cedar Point tickets now on sale
This year APB’s annual trip to Cedar Point will be on Saturday, Oct. 22. Tickets are now on sale at gannontickets.com for $40 per person.
Up to two tickets can be purchased with an undergraduate ID.
Participants will depart by bus at 7:30 a.m. for the park and return in the evening.
