Erie, Pa., — The Golden Knights faced the Marauders of Millersville for the first home contest of the 2023 season.

A touchdown by Millersville in the final 29 seconds of the game caused Gannon to lose their home opener, now 0-2. A Gannon fumble in the first quarter allowed Millersville an early lead with a touchdown.

The second quarter saw the Millersville Marauders increase their lead with yet another touchdown in the last five minutes of the quarter. The Golden Knights rallied after halftime, with their third quarter consisting of multiple impressive plays. #6 Nate Mikell completed 6 passes for 71 yards and a 1st-and-goal at the eight. Gannon’s #28 Braxton Todd seemingly scored his first touchdown (with Gannon) but was later negated due to a holding penalty.

This didn’t stop the energy, however, with Mikell passing to #88 Isaiah Pae for a 12-yard touchdown pass giving the Golden Knights a trailing score of 14-7 at the end of the third quarter.

First play of the fourth quarter Mikell threw his second touchdown pass of the day, tying the game 14-14.

Millersville answered with their own 75-yard drive on nine plays, as well as another 39 yards due to a Gannon penalty, later aiding Millersville to another touchdown leading the score 21-14. Mikell threw yet another touchdown pass, the third of the day thus tying the score 21-21.

The Millersville Marauders returned with a touchdown of their own, with just 29 seconds of the game remaining, beating out the Golden Knights 28-21.

The Golden Knights hit the road again for another PSAC rivalry at West Chester University on September 16th
