Having fun shouldn’t be limited to the weekends

How to step away from work and enjoy the evenings during the week

Chloe Palmiere, Roundtable Editor

The last week has been one of the longest weeks of my life, and it is only the beginning of the semester.

So, we shall see how the rest goes. It felt like hours for one class to go by, and months for just the week to end.

The only thing that helped the past week not be so hard and slow was being able to have fun during the week after my classes and homework rather than waiting for the weekend to come.

As I sat down to write my Perspective column for the week, I started to think to myself, “Why is it that we are we only able to ‘have fun’ on weekends?”

Why is it a stereotype that the weekdays are designated for work, school, coming home tired, eating and then going to bed?

You should be able to reward yourself after a long day filled with stress without feeling “guilty” or strange for having fun.

I recently started listening to a podcast called “Fun on Weekdays” hosted by Jenna Palek. It is about changing your life and living life to the fullest.

She explains how she is able to and always makes sure she has some sort of fun in her daily life after her work is done.

You should not let your daytime life affect your nighttime life. You should be able to have fun seven days of the week, not just two.

Being able to have fun on weekdays can also help with your mental health.

Yes, being in college is all about studying and getting the best grades that you can, but you need to take care of yourself just as much you take care of your schoolwork.

If you can give yourself some sort of break, then that can really impact your life in many positive ways.

Recently, I have been able to have more fun on the weekdays by spending time with my friends.

Whether that be just going to dinner together or spending a few hours with each other, we make an effort to have a stress-free time together.

Afterward, I always go to bed feeling happy and content with my life.

Being able to get my things done during the day, then have fun after is what everyone should be able and want to do.

There are many things that can help you have fun on weekdays.

It does not have to be going out and drinking or partying. It could be as simple as doing a self-care night or watching a movie with your friends.

What I want you to take from reading this is to always add a little bit of fun to your week and to make it a priority to do it more than two days a week.

It does not have to be big or extravagant, but it needs to be bigger and better than nothing.

This could be watching an episode of your favorite TV show or reading a new book.

You may feel some guilt when putting down your work for something fun but do that when you reach a point where it is OK to put it down, or when your brain really feels fried.
