The number of members in Gannon University’s Athletics Hall of Fame will increase once again Feb. 14, during this year’s Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet.

With the new inductees, the total number will rise to 83 members.

The members of the Athletics Hall of Fame contain Gannon alumni who have achieved excellence in the sport.

This year’s inductees include eight individual members along with the 1989 men’s soccer team.

The individual members being inducted were recognized as standouts for their individual sport. The inductees are Kat Bucceri ‘08, women’s water polo; Charles Doane ‘09, men’s water polo;  Dave Kruszewski ‘90, wrestling;  David Leven ‘97, football; Kelly Moyer ‘92, women’s basketball and softball; Dave Patronik ‘06, men’s golf; Mike Runski ‘89, men’s basketball.  Robert Hausmann ‘56 will also be inducted as the 2015 Distinguished Service Award recipient.

Katie Batten, a junior accounting major and a current member of the women’s water polo team, said she loves recognizing the Hall of Fame, especially as a student-athlete.

“It honors previous student-athletes who have been in our shoes at some point,” Batten said.

“My team has a lot of skill and I have a lot of confidence for the water polo team’s future and my fellow teammates.”

Raz Yuval, a senior sport and exercise science major and current captain of the men’s water polo team, said the inductees act as excellent examples for athletes.

“Charles Doane came to practice with us a few times this year and was a great role model for us,” Yuval said. “He has high standards of excellence and liked it.

“I think that he well deserved it with all his individual records here as well as his attitude. Even me as the captain of the team could learn from him.”

The inductees will be honored throughout the day, beginning at 1 p.m. in the Hammermill Center with the women’s basketball game and then at 3 p.m. with the men’s basketball game.

Immediately after the games, the inductees celebrate with a reception followed by the banquet at 5:45 p.m. held in the Yehl Alumni Room in the Waldron Campus Center.

Cost for admission is $35, which includes both basketball games, attendance to the reception and the banquet.

Anyone is welcome to attend; however, seating is limited to 250 registrations and the event annually sells out.

Registration can be made at www.gannonalumni.org and for more information about the event contact Cindy Toland at [email protected] or (814) 871-7608.
