Sigma Tau Delta holds poetry reading March 20

The English honor society, Sigma Tau Delta, will host poet Ron Hayes in a poetry night at 7 p.m., March 20, at The Knight Club.

Hayes is an English teacher and varsity football coach at East High School in Erie.

His work has been published in journals such as the Fjords Review, Referential Magazine and the Battered Suitcase.

His poem “All that Remains” was a runner-up for the William Stafford Prize for Poetry offered by Rosebud Magazine.

An open mic opportunity and light refreshments will follow the reading.

 

ΔΣΦ holds blood drive Friday in Waldron

The Delta Sigma Phi fraternity is sponsoring a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Friday at Room 219 in the Waldron Campus Center.

The fraternity is partnering with the American Red Cross to do a blood drive.

The fraternity also plans to increase awareness of the Red Cross by encouraging students to show their support to the blood drive by wearing red to the women’s basketball game against Slippery Rock at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27.

 

Knight Club hosts first Karaoke Night Saturday

The Knight Club is holding its first Karaoke Night from 10 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday.

 

Journalism contest is now accepting submissions

The journalism communications program is holding its annual campus-wide contest.

Submissions will fall within six categories: news, features, op-ed, reviews, sports and photo.

Entries are due by noon Friday, March 1, and can be submitted at Room 3229 and Room 3227 of the Palumbo Academic Center.

Students may submit two entries per category. Each submission must have a publication record in either a campus or professional medium between Feb. 24, 2012, and March 1, 2013. Students must tape each entry to 8.5-by-11 white paper.

 

Spring Break forms are due this Friday

Spring break forms are available online through myHousing in the Gannon Portal through 4 p.m. Friday.

Upperclassmen, athletes or international students can fill out forms with automatic approval.

Any freshman students needing to stay for break may fill out a form pending approval from the director of student living.

Late form submissions will be subject to a $45 late charge.

Students who find difficulty completing the form or require more information can contact Mark J. Lawniczak at [email protected] or contact the Office of Student Living at 814-871-7234.
