Gannon to hold celebration for Garibaldi

On Thursday, the University will host a special celebration for Dr. Antoine and Mrs. Carol Garibaldi. The celebration is free and open to the public and will be held from 3:30-6:30 p.m. in the Yehl Ballroom. Please mark your calendars as we acknowledge and thank Dr. Garibaldi for his nearly 10 years of exemplary and distinguished service to Gannon. RSVPs are not required. Maroon and Gold award submissions

Gannon’s Totem seeking new staff

Totem, Gannon’s award-winning literary-art journal is now seeking editors and staff for the 2011-2012 academic year. If you’re interested or have questions, contact Berwyn Moore at 871-7504 or [email protected].

Spring Open House and Founders’ Day coming up

The Spring Open House is a wonderful opportunity for prospective students and their families to learn more about Gannon. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday in the lobby of the Waldron Center. At 10:30 a.m., Interim President Dr. Phil Kelly will welcome the visitors in the Hammermill Center. An optional Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. in the Mary, Seat of Wisdom Chapel. Events, presentations and tours of campus, lab facilities and downtown Erie will continue until approximately 3:30 p.m.

The Founder’s Day Convocation will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday at the ballroom of the Avalon Hotel, 16 W. 10th St. Awards will be given to graduating seniors in recognition of their academic excellence, leadership and community service.

Editorial board applications available

Applications are available for students interested in serving on the Editorial Board of The Gannon Knight for the 2011-2012 school year. The form can be obtained by e-mailing Abby Badach, current editor-in-chief, at [email protected]. Applications are due to Frank Garland, adviser of The Knight, in Palumbo 3229 on Friday, April 12.

Positions for section editors and assistant section editors are available for the news, sports, features and arts and leisure sections. The Knight is also looking for copy editors, a photo coordinator, a Roundtable editor, a webmaster and a business and advertising manager. Scholarships are available for select positions. Scholarship opportunities available

The Financial Aid Office is offering two scholarships. The Commonwealth “Good Citizen” Scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate students with extraordinary commitment to community service. One application will be selected by the Financial Aid Committee to be submitted to the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania (AICUP).

The Office is also offering the McLean Scholarship for nursing and physician assistant majors. Applicants must be a full time undergraduate student enrolled in a nursing or physician assistant program and have at least a 3.0 grade point average. Applications for both scholarships can be obtained in the Financial Aid Office and must be submitted no later than Monday.
