Men’s wrestling tops Seton Hill, Penn State Behrend

The Gannon University men’s wrestling team recorded two losses and a win over break at the NWCA National Duals, held in Louisville, Ky.
The Knights fell 22-17 to the University of Central Oklahoma and dropped a 24-12 decision to Upper Iowa University. Their victory came by a very comfortable 35-3 margin over Limestone College.
All of the matches were held Jan. 4.
In the team’s most recent action, Gannon posted a 38-3 win over Penn State Behrend on Jan. 16 after defeating Seton Hill, 25-11, on Jan. 12 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference dual meet.
The Knights won eight of the 10 bouts against Behrend, falling only at 184 pounds.
Gannon’s Liam Babauta (125), Abraham Guarriello (133), Casey Vollmer (141), Justice Jones (149), Nicolas Marsico (157), Owen Balas (165), Bryan Zehe (174) and Gehrig Hutchison (285) won in their respective weight classes.
The Knights challenged Seton Hill on its home turf, getting out to a commanding 22-3 lead after the opening six bouts. The Knights remain undefeated at 2-0 in PSAC action with the victory.
Jacob Dunlop, ranked No. 11 nationally at 125 pounds, remains unbeaten in duals with a 5-0 mark. Evan Fisler is 4-0 in dual meet action.
Dunlop, Austin Hertel (133), Dom Means (149), Fisler (157), Connor Day (165) and Freddie Nixon (197) recorded victories for the Knights.
Dunlop won by major decision, 16-4, at 125 pounds while Hertel notched a win by technical fall (21-5, 6:03). Fisler also won by major decision, 16-8.
Day recorded the lone pin for Gannon; it was his team-best seventh pin of the season.
The Knights will return to action at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Pitt-Johnstown at the Hammermill Center.
In addition to Dunlop, George McGuire also is ranked nationally for the Knights, as he sits at No. 5 in the 157 class.
Following Wednesday’s meet against Pitt-Johnstown, Gannon will host Kutztown at noon Saturday at the Hammermill Center.
