The Gannon University men’s golf team put together a ninth-place finish at the annual Mercyhurst Fall Invitational, which concluded Monday at Lake View Country Club in North East.
A total of 13 teams competed in the two-day event, which was won by Humber College with a score of 300-299-599.
Humber finished with a two-stroke edge over runner-up Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and host Mercyhurst wound up third at 294-311-605.
Gannon sophomore Michael Marsico, competing as an individual, posted the best showing of his career to place sixth overall among 84 golfers on hand.
Marsico followed an opening-round 77 with a score of 73 – the best round of his collegiate career – to finish at 6-over par 150.
It was Marsico’s first top-10 finish as a collegiate.
The tournament’s overall medalist was Adrian Larsen of Mercyhurst, who shot 4-under par 67-73-140 to defeat Humber’s Connor Watt by five strokes.
Two Gannon golfers finished at 10-over par 154 – good enough for a tie for 16th place. Ethan Bennett, competing as an individual, shot 78-76 while Abe Holmes came in at 77-77.
For Holmes, it was his third consecutive finish in the top-20.
Other players scoring for Gannon were Billy Colbert, who finished in a tie for 20th at 73-82-155, Emmett Caskey (tie-42nd, 82-79-161), Mark Majewski (tie-60th, 84-82-166) and Jacob Mertz (tie-60th, 81-85-166).
Moving forward, the Knights’ next outing will take place Oct. 7-8 when they host the annual Howard “Bud” Elwell Invitational at Whispering Woods Golf Club.
