Gannon SGA to host Town Hall Meeting

Gannon SGA to host Town Hall Meeting

In light of student concerns over Gannon University’s recent restructuring decisions, the university’s Student Government Association (SGA) has decided to have a “Town Hall Meeting” Monday so that students can address their concerns in an open format.

The meeting will take place Monday in Room 219 of the Waldron Campus Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting is expected to go until about 7 p.m.

Students have already voiced concerns about the restructuring through a petition created after former Gannon security guard John Coleman was let go during the restructuring among other faculty and staff.

A student created a petition that gained over 1,200 signatures in attempts to bring Coleman back.

SGA President Kendra Walker said she and the SGA executive board planned the event so that students can communicate their ideas and concerns.

Walker added that the newly-elected executive board members will be able to make a connection with students at the meeting.

Walker mentioned that there are no set topics to be covered and it is up to the students to bring to light anything they want to discuss.

“The beauty of a town hall meeting is that it is really an open floor concept that will allow students to voice any ideas in a structured format,” Walker said. “Therefore, what the student body brings up at the meeting will be open for discussion.

“However, in order to ensure efficiency and maintain a proper tone there will be certain expectations that students will be asked to follow. For example, a few of the expectations will be to be respectful, take turns, and a limit of three times speaking. I will be proctoring the discussion with our Chief-of-Staff Mackenzie Wenrick.”
