Both the Gannon men’s and women’s cross country teams finished last among four teams in their first appearance at the Mansfield Invitational Saturday afternoon.
The men’s team boasted the second overall finisher in the 5k race, as sophomore Bobby Danielson posted a time of 15 minutes, 53 seconds — just two seconds behind winner Daniel Neiswender of Bloomsburg. However, the next closest Gannon runner, sophomore Grant Folgate, placed 18th.
It was Danielson’s second-consecutive top-three finish to begin the season.
Folgate was followed by sophomore Nick Samsel (20th), freshman Eric Ingram (23rd), sophomore Dante Sefanelli (25th) and sophomore Trevor Leyden (35th).
Senior Veronica Bujdos paced the Gannon women with her 10th-place overall finish in 19:19.
Gannon returns to action Friday at the Notre Dame Catholic Invitational in South Bend, Ind. The men’s team finished 13th among 24 teams last year, while the women’s team finished 15th out of 25 teams.
