VMA’s set to appear this week

September means back-to-school specials, season premieres and – of course – the MTV Video Music Awards.

The 2012 VMA’s will air Thursday, Sept. 6 at 8 p.m. CDT, hosted by Kevin Hart.

Hart, best known for his role in the “Scary Movie” franchise, will bring his signature stand-up to the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

When it comes to Hart’s jokes, no one is safe.

“The only way people feel comfortable is if they feel uncomfortable first,” he told MTV regarding his hosting style.

The live show will include performances from Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Green Day, P!nk and One Direction.

Such superstars as Andy Samberg, Miley Cyrus and the “Fierce Five” U.S. women’s gymnastics team will present the coveted Moonman trophies.

Even though voting has ended in most categories, the polls for Best New Artist and Most Share-Worthy Video will be open until the show begins.

Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” and One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” videos are nominated for both titles.

They face off against fun., Frank Ocean and The Wanted in the Best New Artist category and Beyonce, Gotye and Justin Bieber in Most Share-Worthy Video.

Moonman will also be awarded to those chosen for best male, female, pop, rock, hip-hop and electronic dance music videos.
