Gannon University has named Brad Rzyczycki its head football coach.
Gannon President Keith Taylor made the announcement during a press conference Friday morning inside the Board Room in the Old Main building.
Rzyczycki, 39, had been the interim head coach since Jim Kiernan resigned in early March and previously served as Gannon’s defensive coordinator since Kiernan’s arrival in 2007.
“I am extremely blessed to have been given this opportunity,” Rzyczycki said during the press conference.
Rzyczycki, who played defensive back at Mercyhurst College from 1991-1994, had also coached with Kiernan at Saginaw Valley State University.
The Knights are also dealing with an investigation by the campus and Erie police into the alleged beating Saturday of Gannon redshirt freshman wrestler Jermaine Easter. Easter was sent to the hospital with multiple injuries and identified his attackers as Gannon football players.
Gannon went 4-7 in 2011 after posting back-to-back 6-5 seasons in 2009 and 2010.
