THE GANNON KNIGHT

Veteran, young rapper collaborate on album

Collaborations seem to be popular these days.

First with Jay-Z and Kanye West, and now Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa have joined forces.

Snoop and Wiz teamed together to create the soundtrack “Mac and Devin Go to High School.”

The interesting thing about this project is Snoop is working on directing a movie project that goes along with the soundtrack.

Usually the movie is released with the soundtrack but this time they decided to release it before the movie came out.

The promotion for this album was slim to none at least in the U.S., so most people might not have heard it was coming out.

Snoop and Wiz sure are an interesting combination due to both of their backgrounds.  Snoop Dogg is a hip-hop icon and mogul, and Wiz may be the quickest up-and-coming star.

The best element of this collaboration is that it is not over the top.

The CD contains 12 tracks altogether and just flows really well.

The track that probably stands out the most on this CD is “Young Wild & Free” featuring Bruno Mars.

Even though this was the commercial single for the album it is up there for one of the best tracks on the album.

“Smokin’ On” featuring Juicy J kicks off the CD as the best song on the album.

Snoop and Wiz certainly like to chill a lot so the vibe on this track really flows well.

It makes you believe what they’re rapping about, and is another fun song to just kick it with your friends.

One of the things that holds down the album is some of the production.

For example on the song “6:30,” there is so much wrong with this song production-wise.

The main thing is it has a lackluster hook with a guitar beat and it really seems like Snoop and Wiz are out of place on this record.

Another disappointment is “Let’s Go Study.”

Not only is this song lacking in terms of production but it also really is not the best work from Snoop and Wiz.

It seemed on this track that Snoop and Wiz really didn’t connect like they did on the album’s other 10 tracks.

This is more of a filler track than anything.

You really get 10 good tracks if you decide to purchase this album.

The one thing that might hold you back from buying it is the price, which is about $16 in-store.

Besides that, you get a really solid CD.

Regardless if people think Snoop is not as good as he once was, he continues to prove to people he is on top of his game.

Look for another Snoop and Wiz collaboration in the future because this one was certainly a success.
