CHESS candidate forums

Students will have the opportunity to meet two of the four remaining candidates who are in the running to become the new dean of the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences in the coming weeks.

The student forums will take place in Room 1200 of the Palumbo Academic Center.

Beth Aracena, Ph.D., will be represented 11 a.m. Tuesday.

The forum for Jeffrey Breese, Ph.D., will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20.

University holds journalism contest

The journalism communications program is holding its annual journalism contest, open to all Gannon students. Submissions will fall under six categories: news, features, op-ed, reviews, sports and photo. Entries are due by noon Friday, Feb. 24, in Frank Garland’s English department mailbox, Room 3227 of the A.J. Palumbo Academic Center.

Students may enter two articles per category. Entries must have been published in a campus or professional medium between Feb. 26, 2011, and Feb. 24, 2012.

Tape each entry to 8.5-by-11 white paper and print category, name of publication, date published, your name, major, year and phone number on the back of the paper.

Spring Concert reveal

On Wednesday, the Activities Programming Board will announce the performers that have been chosen to play in Gannon’s 2012 Spring Concert.

Between noon and 3 p.m., students who stop by APB’s concert table will have the chance to enter to win fantastic prizes, including a 32-inch TV, CDs, gift cards and complimentary tickets to the event.

APB trip to Niagara Falls

APB is leading a recreational trip to Niagara Falls, Ontario, on Saturday, Feb. 18. Interested students can buy tickets on gannontickets.com for $25.

There is a one-ticket limit per undergraduate ID.

Trip participants will report at the Gannon Arch to board the bus at 8:15 a.m. and the bus will leave at 9 a.m.

Because the trip will be taking students out of the country, participants must present their passports before boarding the bus.

While en route to Niagara Falls, the bus will stop for a three-hour period at the Walden Galleria Mall in Buffalo, N.Y.

English department poetry contest

Students combing their creative genes are asked to submit up to two poems for the 2012  Poetry Contest, sponsored by the Gannon English department.

Interested writers should turn in their submitted work by 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, in Room 3227 in the Palumbo Academic Center.

Contest winners will be announced at the Awards Night Celebration at 7:30 p.m. April 18, in the Yehl Ballroom. First prize for undergraduate poetry is $100.
