Erie, PA—Tasman Goodrick’s career-high 29 points helped spark a comeback victory for the Gannon Golden Knights men’s basketball team on Saturday afternoon. A spectacular performance by Goodrick and teammate Justin DeBuck carried Gannon to a road win against the Clarion University Golden Eagles.
The Golden Knights started hot scoring the game’s first nine points. A three-pointer by DeBuck forced Clarion to call a timeout just three minutes into the game. Gannon would score 25 points in the first half of the period and extend its lead to 14. The Golden Eagles would storm back with a 21-2 rally to give Clarion its first lead of the game. Ernest Shelton would score Gannon’s final eight points of the period, but the Golden Eagles would lead 36-35 at halftime.
A 14-0 stretch to start the second half would give Clarion its biggest lead of the game. Trailing by 16 points with less than 15 minutes to play, Gannon needed to start scoring quickly. Goodrick and the Golden Knights would score eight unanswered points to cut the deficit in half. A trio of Goodrick field goals positioned Layne Sarver to tie the game with a three-pointer. After going back-and-forth scoring, Gannon would start to pull away. A 15-2 run positioned them with a comfortable lead. The Golden Knights defense would hold Clarion to only six points in the last five minutes en route to a 78-65 comeback victory.
Gannon’s win improved their record to 20-6 while Clarion fell to 11-13. DeBuck would finish his night with 23 points while Victor Desmond picked up nine rebounds. The Golden Knights return to action on Saturday, February 22nd on the road against Pitt-Johnstown. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00PM.
