Erie, Pa.— Gannon’s Golden Knights men’s basketball team’s 15–game winning streak snapped last weekend after a hard–fought battle against the Daemen Wildcats. Facing the second–ranked team in the NABC Division II, Gannon was held to its lowest–scoring affair this season.
Gannon’s Lucas Sekasi had the team’s first five points as both teams were neck–and–neck through the first half of the period. But Daemon started to take control following a 12–2 run towards the end of the half. The Wildcats would head to the locker room with a 42–31 lead.
Daeman’s squad would not slow down entering the second half starting it with a 9–2 run. Near the middle of the period, Gannon’s deficit would grow to 22 points. Nonetheless, the Knights would strike back with Layne Sarver’s three–pointer to cap off an incredible 11–0 run.
Unfortunately, Gannon wouldn’t be able to get any closer as the comeback fell short. Daeman’s win streak would continue while the Golden Knights would fall 82–70 on the road.
The Wildcat offense shot consistently, shooting over 50% in total field goals despite shooting 1–9 on three–pointers. Meanwhile, Gannon struggled to hit just below 35% of their shots. Daeman’s fourth–ranked scoring defense overpowered Gannon’s fifth–ranked scoring offense.
Despite the loss, Gannon had four players with double–digit scoring including Pace Prosser’s team–leading 14 points. The freshman would record his first career double–double registering 10 rebounds. Meanwhile for Daeman, their top scorer 6–foot–10 center Benjamin Bill was nearly perfect with 21 points and made 10/11 shots.
The Gannon Golden Knights basketball team will head on the road to take on the Seton Hill Griffins on January 25th with the game expected to start at 3:00 PM. The Griffins have lost five out of their last six games while Gannon will look to start a new win streak.
