Erie, Pa.-– The Gannon Golden Knights men’s basketball team kicked off its season this past weekend with a two–game tournament in Lakeland, Florida at the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic.
Gannon squared off against Nova Southeastern of Davie, Florida in the first game of the weekend on Saturday, November 2. In the first half, it was a back and forth contest with Gannon having a ten–point lead seven minutes into the game. The Sharks would claw back and would take a ten–point halftime lead of their own following a 43–23 run to end the half.
Entering the second half a huge shot by #5 Justin DeBuck cut the Sharks’ lead to four, but Nova Southeastern would start to pull away. Gannon would fall 122–99 in their season–opener despite a 21–point effort from #4 Ernest Shelton.
The Golden Knights would suit up the next day for a battle against the Lake Superior Lakers of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The Lakers would start out fast taking an 18–8 lead eight minutes into the first half. While Gannon was got within five minutes later, a 15–2 run would help boost
Lake Superior’s lead to what would eventually be a 24–point halftime deficit for Gannon. Down big entering the second half, the Golden Knights would cut the lead to 14–points but that’s as close as they would get as the Lakers defeat Gannon 107–87. Tasman Goodrick would lead the team with 16–points while making 6 three–pointers.
Gannon’s men’s basketball team would start their season 0–2 following a winless Florida trip. The Golden Knights will head to Petersburg, Virginia to face the Virginia State Trojans on November 8. The game is set for 7:00PM.
