Golden Knights Land Three Athletes on PSAC West Athlete of the Week Team

Juniors Kam Snell and Gabby Boden, and sophomore Samuel Alarcon were all named PSAC West Athletes of the Week after their recent performances last week. Boden, who was named the overall PSAC West Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week, began the week with two goals against Clarion, leading her team to a 4-1 win. She then followed that performance with an assist that pushed the Golden Knights to a 2-1 win against California (PA).

For Boden, who is coming off an All-PSAC Second Team season in 2022, this is her first ever Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week Award. Goalkeeper Samuel Alarcon was able to pick up his second PSAC West Men’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week award after finishing two games with five saves and only one goal allowed.

Alarcon’s performances helped the Golden Knights to a 1-0-1 record over the course of the week, with a 1-0 win over Saint Rose, and a 1-1 tie against Saginaw Valley State. As for Kam Snell, who was named the PSAC West Football Defensive Athlete of the Week, he was able to contribute one interception, three tackles, and one pass breakup to the Golden Knights’ comeback effort against Clarion last Saturday.

Snell returned his interception for a touchdown, which was the go-ahead score, and seemingly the dagger, in a 20-point comeback that saw the Golden Knights come out on top 27-20. Snell’s pick-6 also contributed some historical significance, as it was the first interception returned for a touchdown by Gannon since 2018.

Also, the 20-point comeback was recorded as the largest comeback in Gannon Football history. For the Gannon Athletic department, this marks the fourth straight week with three different PSAC Athletes of the Week across all sports. For an athletic department which is fresh off a repeat season as Dixon Cup Champions (best overall athletic department in the PSAC), there seems to be no signs of falling off and no signs of slowing down.
