Gannon University’s student radio station 90.5 WERG was the recipient of several awards during the virtual 2021 IBS Conference, which wrapped up March 6

WERG was named the best college station in the nation for colleges with less than 10,000 enrolled students.

The station won several other awards, including best show promo, which was designed by Robert Fox, the station’s production manager. The promo was for the Sonic Sunrise morning show.

Station member Amanda Drew won the award for best music director, and the station won the best celebrity news interview for Vote! with the cast of Hamilton, which was aired during Super Soul Saturday.

The station was also a national finalist in three other categories.

Fox’s “Welcome Back 2020” event promo was a finalist while the station’s website also came close to winning an award.

Meanwhile, station Sports Director Erik Konwinski was a national finalist for his realm of focus.

In a recap on the station’s Instagram page, staff members were thanked for their efforts.

“We are so extremely proud of our management and staff here at 90.5 WERG,” the post said. “Keep up at the great work team!”

In the past few years, WERG has been known for winning awards and being finalists for many others.

The station has also seen many developments in its presence on Gannon’s campus as well as in the surrounding Erie community.

In 2019, the station became an NBC News Radio affiliate and continues to focus on carrying updates from Erie News Now, both for regional and local news.

The station remains active year-round sharing the music, news and perspectives of Gannon students throughout the area.
