Jillian Gray
sophomore
accounting and management major
Why are you running for Vice President of Finance?
I’m an accounting major, so I really like the business and money aspect of it, and SGA has a really big budget and so I have the opportunity to form that budget. So I’ll decide how much goes to club funding, sport club funding and all that kind of stuff.
I’m excited because I actually feel prepared for it because I was on the budget of finance committee this year so if anybody needed money, clubs, organizations, they would come to us and we would say yes or no or how much we’re going to give.
What are your goals if you are elected as Vice President of Finance?
My biggest goal is just to make it as easy as possible for clubs and sports clubs to request funding because right now we just changed the process to an annual system, so a lot of people are having trouble with that and trying to make budgets and giving the information that we need because they don’t really know. I just really want to help them so that it’s a seamless process.
What have you accomplished during your time on campus/in SGA?
I transferred here as a freshman and I didn’t really feel like I belonged at my last college. When I came to Gannon I said I’m going to get involved, so through SGA, I’ve gone to lead 36 people, I’ve been able to be part of the BFC, different things that we do on campus and I really felt I’ve developed as a leader. I finally feel comfortable enough to run for an E-board position.
Why should students vote for you?
I think they should vote for me because I really take into consideration what they want and I’ll listen. I’m very objective, so I can see both sides of things. If you’re asking for too much it’s not like I’m going to say no, but I’m going to be like “Let’s work it out,” so I can still give you what you need so that you can still put on programs.
I understand because I’ve spent time not being on E-board and trying to get things accomplished so I understand where they are coming from. I like to work with people.
Is there anything you’d like students to know about you?
I guess I would say if you are trying to ask for money, not be afraid to talk to me. I know I have this hard expression, you know, resting mean face, I’ll say. It’s because I’m very overworked sometimes because I really care about all the things I do, but I’m a really nice person, I swear.
