Schuster Theatre prepares for International Collegiate Theatre Festival trip

Schuster Theatre prepares for International Collegiate Theatre Festival trip

The start of a new semester brings new classes, new clubs and new available opportunities for Gannon University students, one of which is the International Collegiate Theatre Festival.

The International Collegiate Theatre Festival provides an opportunity for collegiate level performing arts programs to study and showcase their productions on the international stage of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival held in Edinburgh, Scotland.

An informational meeting for any university students and staff members interested in attending the festival will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday in the Schuster Theatre Green Room.

The meeting is open to all students of any year or major and theatre experience is not needed to attend this global and cultural experience.

The trip itself will occur sometime in early August; an official specific date has not yet been set. This is the third year that Gannon University has sent students to perform at the festival.

Topics to be discussed at the meeting include the date range, general cost, event registration, loans and fundraising and the show that will be performed at the festival.

Jax Vadney, technical director of the Schuster Theatre, said that she is excited to take her second group of Gannon students to perform at the festival.

“Seeing the students’ world open up to a larger picture of arts from around the world is amazing,” she said.

“Plus, add onto that all of the very different styles of shows from around the world that we can see while we are there, the rich Scottish culture, and the people to meet and get to know.  It really is a priceless experience for everyone.”

Vadney said students could participate in a variety of ways while in Edinburgh, including acting, running technical or crew positions or even handing out programs at shows as front-of-house personnel.

Any student who is even slightly interested in the trip is encouraged to attend Monday’s meeting. If students are unable to attend the meeting, they may contact Vadney at [email protected] for more information.
