Women’s soccer ranked No. 21 in final poll

Gannon women’s soccer was ranked 21st by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top 25 poll Tuesday afternoon.

Grand Valley State (Mich.) remained No. 1 for the third consecutive poll with a 24-1 record as the NCAA Division II National Champion.

Two PSAC programs were ranked in the top 25 with East Stroudsburg (9th) and Edinboro beat Gannon with 20th place.

Gannon can hang its hat on the fact that it’s the best in program history with an overall record of 18-3. The Knights were 17-1 in the regular season giving them the top seed in the PSAC Conference Tournament.

They also became the third program in the PSAC to win 17 matches in a row, bumping them up to the No. 1 position in four consecutive NSCAA Top 25 Polls. This was their first No. 1 ranking in the history of the program.

To add to its list of accomplishments, coach Colin Petersen’s team spent a whopping two weeks as the only team at any level of the NCAA without a loss or tie until it fell to the Warriors of East Stroudsburg in the regular-season finale. The Knights shattered the previous school record for victories set by the 2012 squad at 13-4-2. The Knights also had their first taste of PSAC Final Four play and first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament play on their turf.
