Despite loss, Knights get No. 1 seed

Despite falling to rival Edinboro in the PSAC semifinals, 3-1, Friday, the Gannon University women’s soccer team was selected No. 1 in the Atlantic Region and will host the first two rounds of the NCAA Division II tournament.

Gannon (18-2-0), ranked seventh nationally, receives a first-round bye and will host the Edinboro-Charleston winner at 2 p.m. Sunday at McConnell Family Stadium.

Edinboro (14-7-0) will face Charleston at noon Friday at McConnell Family Stadium.

East Stroudsburg earned the No. 6 seed and enters the tournament 11-6-2 overall.

The Warriors face No. 3 seed West Chester in the other first-round game, with the winner moving on to play host West Virginia Wesleyan at 1 p.m. Sunday in the other half of the Atlantic region bracket.

The two subregional winners will meet Nov. 20 for the Atlantic Region title, with the top remaining seed in the East Region serving as host.
