THE GANNON KNIGHT

All stress, no breath drives students insane

The semester seems to have gone by slower than usual – at least that’s what we think at The Gannon Knight.

It’s not unusual to hear professors, parents and upperclassmen talk about how fast the spring semester usually goes by – some claim it goes by faster than the fall semester.

We beg to differ. The spring semester, particularly this one, seem to be passing in no haste, mainly for one reason: we don’t have as many spaced out breaks during the course of the semester.

In the fall, we wouldn’t go two months without going home or taking five days off; we have Labor Day, fall break, Thanksgiving break and then Christmas break. We don’t have that same luxury in the spring.

Students at Gannon University, however, remain more fortunate than those in schools with fewer holidays.

Recently, the staff at The Knight reports witnessing more stress-related behaviors from students than usual. The most obvious causes would be the nearing of midterms, projects and paper due dates.

Another reason is probably because students didn’t have time to stop and take a breath for more than a month – a normal occurance on other campuses, but an unusual one on Gannon’s campus.

If you have midterms in the coming two days, power through, even if all the world seems to be conspiring against you these two days. Put your problems to rest and do all you can.

Get out your to-do list sheets and start going through them one item at a time. Remember to rest every once and a while, preferably not on Netflix, though – that type of rest could rob you of days and nights at a time.

Stay on track and daydream about days to come. “Spring” break is just around the corner, even though somebody needs to tell that to Erie’s weather.
