Life can sometimes leave you stuck in a rut. The daily drudgery can beat you down until the only way out is a jolt to your system – a shock to get you out of your routine.
El Toro Loco can be that shock, especially in these dreary Erie winter months.
Those concerned about spicy food can be put at ease by the clearly marked menu – and the wait staff is incredibly helpful.
The complementary appetizer of chips and salsa was impressive – a large basket of warm tortilla chips and a sizeable cup of salsa made for an interesting beginning to a culinary adventure. Looking up, TV en español graces the screen – a definite nod to the location’s culinary authenticity.
Two quesadillas were presented well on either side of the plate with lettuce, peppers and tomatoes garnishing the center. This setup allowed for maximum control over your quesadilla experience – something more restaurants should offer.
The steak quesadilla was rich in flavor – the melted cheese seamlessly melding with the spices in the steak. At the same time, the meat in the quesadilla was a bit overcooked, and some bites were a bit too chewy.
Still, it was the best quesadilla in the Erie area – especially good considering it’s only a few blocks from campus.
In the evening, service suffers. Once seated, there can be a sizeable wait time before your server reaches you. In the afternoon, this was not a problem at all – service was prompt and helpful.
One of the highlights of El Toro Loco is the atmosphere. The colors, sounds and tastes make this a cultural immersion program on an hour budget. Do not miss it.
Overall, even considering the weak service, the delicious affordable food and lively atmosphere make this a clear choice for students who want to spice up their afternoon or evening.
