Springtime on Gannon’s campus brings about many celebrations for academic achievement, including Founders’ Day, English Awards Night and Celebrate Gannon.
The most important of these events will be the 2012 commencement ceremony, which will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, at the Erie Civic Center.
The schedule of events for that day begins with the U.S. Army Commissioning Ceremony at 8:30 a.m. in the Schuster Theatre. Faculty, family and friends of the Commissioners are invited to attend this event.
A Baccalaureate Mass will then be held at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Cathedral. This is a celebration of the University Community, and graduates, families and friends are all invited to this liturgy.
From 11 a.m. to noon there will be a commencement reception in the Yehl Ballroom in honor of the graduates; parents, spouses, families and guests are invited to this event.
The 2012 graduates of Gannon University will then assemble at the Warner Theatre, before walking over to the Erie Civic Center for the Commencement ceremony at 2 p.m.
Rianna Macwhirter, a senior accounting major, will be working full time at Schaffner, Knight, Minnaugh & Company as an auditor after graduation. She will also be studying for her CPA exam, and planning her wedding. Aside from looking forward to not having anymore homework, Macwhirter says, “I’m the first one in my family to graduate from college so it will be an extra special day for all of us.”
Adam Hoffman, a senior biology major, will be attending LECOM in the fall for medical school, with plans to eventually become a gastroenterologist.
“I am looking forward to sharing graduation with all my friends, and to starting a new chapter at medical school,” Hoffman said.
Cassie Byers, a senior physician assistant major, is looking forward to continuing with rotations, as well as being able to spend more time with her family.
“I will miss the relationships and friendships I’ve built during my time at Gannon,” Byers said.
Graduation is an exciting time on campus, and a proud accomplishment for all the seniors who will be receiving their diplomas. Don’t miss the exciting Commencement at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 5 at the Tulio Arena.
