Erie, PA. – On Oct. 18, according to CNN, nearly 7 million people took to the streets to protest the Trump administration, marking a total of more than 2,700 events in all 50 states. The rallies were organized by over 200 organizations, but the most involved one was 50501, according to Factually.
The rallies highlighted marches, with protestors holding homemade signs with phrases or images calling out the Trump administration as well as different flags. Many rallies also had speakers who brought awareness to certain issues. Two major points in the protest were ICE and Palestine, with some protestors carrying Palestinian flags.
In New York City, one protester held a sign that said, “We protest because we love America, and we want it back.” This was a major sentiment throughout all the rallies.
Down south in Atlanta, protestors honored the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement and those who marched before them.
As many as 250,000 demonstrators protested in Chicago, according to Block Club Chicago. Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker made a surprise appearance along with Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.
Most law enforcement organizations reported little to no arrests and that the protests remained peaceful and within their organized places.
In Erie, PA. the rally was held at Perry Square, close to Gannon University. Those attending the rally walked the perimeters with signs and flags, listening to speeches and songs from the stage. The speakers addressed their issues with the government and provided tips to peacefully solve these problems. The rally caught the attention of many, with people driving by announcing their support. The rally was deemed to be peaceful and successful overall, according to Erie News Now.
President Trump condemned the rallies and referred to them as “a joke.” According to USA Today, several Republican leaders called the rallies “hate America” rallies.
The protests have since garnered major media attention globally, just like they had during the previous No Kings Day in June.
