Erie, Pa. – Get ready for a thrilling and hilarious showdown because A Divine Kerfuffle, a playwright by H. Russ Brown, takes Schuster stage this October.
The play opens a window to a glittering world that is glamorous but also has hidden chaos among Europe’s divas. Set in 1895, the story centers on Sarah Bernhardt, a famous star of the Victorian era. She begins to realize that her fame is being threatened by young new stars with their own ambition and charm.
Eleanora Duse, an Italian promising young actress, emerges as a direct rival to Sarah. Both women are eager to win the leading role in a play – which Sarah believes could be the chance of a lifetime. Their ambition drives them into a fierce rivalry, where each is determined to do whatever it takes to reach their goal.
A Divine Kerfuffle is a farcical comedy where characters burst with exaggerated expressions – run around, and shout in a series of chaotic but hilarious moments. Beneath the humor lies a sharp portrayal of the clash between two generations of stage divas – one fighting to hold onto fading fame, the other rising to claim the spotlight. Audiences also witness the vivid colors of late 19th-century European costumes and the play’s lively mix of languages, making it a joyful theater experience.
As the curtain rises, A Divine Kerfuffle promises an evening filled with laughter, charm, and the enchanting chaos of the theatre world. The play dives deep into the rivalries and passions behind the scenes, where fame, love, and pride collide – creating a whirlwind of chaos, allure, and laughter that celebrates the delightful madness of the stage.
A Divine Kerfuffle will be performed from Oct. 16–25, 2025, with evening shows starting at 7:30 p.m. and a special matinee at 2:00 p.m. on Oct. 25 at Schuster Theatre, Gannon University. Coming and see an evening filled with laughter and dramatic showdowns between legendary divas!
