Erie, PA. — During the month of October, there is only one question to ask: What are you going to be doing for Halloween?
This special edition of the Roundtable is in collaboration with Gannon University’s Provost and Vice President for Student Experience, Sarah Ewing, Ph.D. She set out across campus to find students, faculty, and staff and ask this haunting question.
Isaac Kalivoda, Rodrigo Parra Perez, and Emilio Bell were the first three students, Dr. Ewing stumbled upon in the Waldron Campus Center. Isaac shared that he is planning on being a Ghostbuster. Rodrigo and Emilio are planning to do a costume with one of their friends. Rodrigo is going to recreate his costume from freshman year with his friend, and they are going to be Cheech and Chong; whereas Emilio is planning on either being Mario or Luigi and his friend will be the other character.
As Dr. Ewing moved across campus, she ran into Tex Brieger, the Director of the Center for Excellence and Technology and Chief Online Learning Officer, on AJ’s Way. Tex did not have an answer at first, but after some serious thought, he decided he was going to dress up as Victor E. Knight for Halloween.
In Palumbo Academic Center (Palumbo), Dr. Ewing found multiple students, faculty and staff who were willing to participate. Outside of the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, she interviewed Brendan Murphy, a Gannon student. He shared that he is dressing up as a hunter, and his girlfriend is going to be a deer. On the third floor of Palumbo, Cadence Hoover and Khan Munkhsaikhan were the next two students to be interviewed. Cadence was unsure of what she was planning to do for Halloween, but Khan had a few ideas that included being Superman or Beast Boy from Teen Titans.
Moving into the Theology and Philosophy department, Dr. Ewing stumbled upon Robyn Gaier, Ph.D., assistant professor. When asked what she was going to be for Halloween, Dr. Gaier was unsure of her costume for this year. However, back on the second floor of Palumbo in the Commuter Corner, student Shayla Mims knew exactly what she was going to be. This year, Shayla plans to be Princess Tiana from Disney’s Princess and the Frog.
The last person Dr. Ewing interviewed was Keith Jones Pomeroy, Director of the Center for Social Concerns. He was in a hurry because he was running late to the class he teaches, so they did a speed round. Dr. Ewing quickly asked him the question, and he rapidly responded with “a monster,” and proceeded to run off to class.
Halloween is only two weeks away, but there is still plenty of time to put together the perfect costume. To watch these interviews, visit Dr. Ewing’s Instagram, @gu_provost, and watch the latest Gannon Knight Roundtable x Provost Perspective video.
