Erie, PA. — On Sept. 23, President Donald Trump addressed world leaders during the 80th U.N. General Assembly (UNGA). The United Nations has 193 member countries. During this meeting, 200 world leaders spoke on behalf of their countries and the non-member observer states such as the European Union, the Holy See, and the State of Palestine. Each member country got their chance to bring up topics of discussion for future assemblies. President Trump spoke in detail about the strength of the United States, his views on immigration and migration and climate change.
Starting off his 57-minute-long speech, Trump spoke on the current state of the United States, claiming that this is the “golden age of America.” Trump talks about the overwhelming strength of the U.S. since taking office.
During his speech, Trump emphasized the considerable economic growth in America. He then mentions the recent introduction of tariffs on imports to the United States. The current administration has been enforcing these tariffs, taxes on imports, to even the cost of American exports. Trump feels the U.S. has been unfairly taxed on exports to other countries, which is why he claims to have returned the favor with tariffs on China, Vietnam, Cambodia, and more.
Next on his agenda was to address immigration around the world. President Trump uses the term “illegal aliens,” which refers to a foreign national who lives without official authorization in a country of which they are not a citizen. Trump goes on in his speech to say, “immigration is destroying countries” and explains it has been a massive contributor to the fracturing of national identity around the world.
Migration was another stressor Trump attributes to this issue. His administration holds the opinion that the global migration agenda is extremely uncontrolled and a danger to a country’s sovereignty or the right to govern themselves.
International relations were another topic President Trump heavily emphasized. Referencing war in the Gaza Strip, he declares the intent for the release of all hostages and to retrieve the bodies of those who died while in captivity.
Trump then goes on to speak about Russo-Ukrainian war. In his opinion, the war in Ukraine reflects terribly on Russia who has perpetrated a full-scale invasion since February of 2022. Experts anticipated this war to end within a week, but the war has continued now for three years. Trump frowns upon the countries and international agencies who have shown continued support for Russia while this conflict rages on.
Closing off his speech, President Trump denounces any U.S. involvement in climate control. Trump referenced proudly leaving the Paris Agreement which works to limit global warming. His administration believes in eliminating renewable resources which Trump says, “are a joke.” In his eyes climate change does not exist. Under the current administration the United States will continue to spend their money and time on exploiting non-renewable resources.
President Trump’s speech focused on topics the U.N. and member countries need to consider while trying to foster a peaceful world order.
