Erie, PA. – On Tuesday, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Gannon University held their University-Wide Career Fair. Held in the Highmark Events Center for all students to attend. This fair includes more than 65 employees, which surpasses last year. These companies stretch across different industries to appeal to all students.
The career fair not only offers jobs and internship opportunities for students. Thanks to the Student Government Association headshots were taken free of charge during the career fair with business clothes provided. The career fair is an open space for students to learn about potential career paths and practice professional networking skills.
Carly Masiroff, Career Prep Academic & Career Development Assistant Director, organized the fair for students. In previous years, she received feedback from students wanting equal representation of all fields of study. This year she worked tirelessly to make sure the fair represented as many majors as possible. In addition to a diverse collection of majors she brought local, regional, and national companies to Erie.
Masiroff wants students to “take advantage of this opportunity,” understanding that there is a serious struggle to get jobs. This fair is used to encourage students to introduce themselves to the job market and make connections in a less intimidating environment.
Job stands at the fair include Rochester Regional Health, Aflac, Erie Public Schools, Barber National Institute, Erie Insurance, and so many more. The 68 different companies appeal to majors such as health sciences, education, and computer science. The fair host different branches of the military and various police departments for students, a part of Gannon ROTC.
Carly Masiroff reached out to employers who are Gannon Alumni. She emphasized the importance they serve at the fair. They talked with students about their experience fresh out of college on the job market. Alumni give opportunities to Gannon students for work and internships.
Over 600 students were in attendance for this semester’s career fair. Students have expressed their excitement about the fair being more inclusive for all. A Computer Science student echoed other students’ feelings about the fair. Stating the fair “has been better than the last few years.”
The career fair is constantly improving, and more students find themselves taking advantage of the opportunities the fair has to offer. The University plans to have more events throughout the year targeting specific fields of study.
Gannon University Student Success Center is where students can learn more about employment, internships, and career opportunities. It is highly encouraged that students explore this resource to better prepare themselves for their futures outside of Gannon.
