Erie, PA. – The Gannon Golden Knights earned a hard-fought win at home against the West Chester Golden Rams on Saturday afternoon. Gannon produced three goals scored by different players while #8 Sverre Orten added his third goal of the season.
The Golden Knights set the tone early with a goal scored by Rafa Hyde, his first of the season, five minutes into the game. Orten almost added another goal but missed high right. West Chester had plenty of chances throughout the first half, but Gannon’s stellar defense had every answer. The Golden Rams finally broke through around the 20-minute mark with Maksym Komperda’s game-tying goal. With less than two minutes in the first half, Hyde found Orten in front for another Golden Knight goal. Gannon ended the first half with a 2-1 lead.
It was a quiet start to the second half as neither club could find a goal despite plenty of chances. Gannon’s Shota Toyama had a prime opportunity close up to extend the lead around the 65-minute mark but hit the post. Moments later Toyama and Per Kristian Lauvstad set up Jack Kenyon for another Golden Knights score. Gannon extended its lead to 3-1 with just over 20 minutes remaining. The Golden Knights continued to control the momentum with another chance by Enzo Rekka, whose shot attempt just missed left. Gannon continued to control the clock and closed the door on any attempt at a West Chester comeback.
The Golden Knights improved to 2-1-2 on the season with both wins at home. Gannon played on the road on Tuesday afternoon against the Adelphi Panthers. Enzo Rekka scored the lone goal in the 2-1 loss. The Golden Knights will play the Seton Hill Griffins at home on October 1st at 3:00 p.m.
