Erie, PA. – A new chapter, a turning point is coming to American Vogue. On Tuesday, September 2, Condé Nast – the publisher of Vogue – officially announced that Chloe Malle will succeed Anna Wintour as the magazine’s new Head of Editorial Content.
Who exactly is Chloe Malle, and what makes her the one to take Anna Wintour’s place?
Chloe Malle is no longer a stranger to the world of fashion journalism. She was born in an artistic family as a daughter of actress Candice Bergen and director Louis Malle. Chloe joined Vogue in 2011 as a social editor, becoming a contributing editor in 2016, and from 2023, she has served as the editor of Vogue.com.
Under Chloe Malle’s leadership, Vogue.com has seen remarkable growth, with monthly traffic doubling to 14.5 million visits. Beyond the numbers, Malle has broadened the site’s editorial scope. She introduced editor-led newsletters that deliver in-depth perspectives of fashion, culture, and lifestyle.
At the same time, Malle has championed interactive online events that attracted hundreds of thousands of participant and strengthen Vogue’s connecting with public. She is now co-hosting the only magazine’s podcast called “The Run-Through with Vogue” with Chioma Nnadi, head of editorial content of British Vogue.
“At a moment of change both within fashion and outside it, Vogue must continue to be both the standard-bearer and the boundary-pushing leader,” Anna Wintour said in a statement posted on Vogue.com “Chloe has proven often that she can find the balance between American Vogue’s long, singular history and its future on the front lines of the new.”
Anna Wintour, a figure of power and influence in the fashion world for decades.
Since Anna Wintour taking-over as Editor-in-chief of American Vogue in 1988, she is more than just an editor – she is a tastemaker, a talent scout, and the woman who transformed Vogue into the world’s definitive fashion Bible.
In the 1990s, Wintour created her signature “Wintour Effect”, when designers, models, celebrities, and brands features in Vogue would quickly prominence and set the tones for global trend. From then on, Vogue is no longer merely a fashion magazine but a powerful force influencing culture, art, politics, and sport.
A century-defining change
Anna Wintour announced in June that she would be stepping down as Editor-in-Chief of Vogue – yet she isn’t leaving it behind. She will remain the Global Editorial Director of Vogue worldwide and continue her influential role as Chief Content Officer of Condé Nast.
Witnessing the generational shift at Vogue — from the legendary leadership that cemented its global stature to a new generation tasked with shaping its growth in the digital age — marks a truly significant moment. As a new era begins, it is Chloe Malle’s vision that will define what Vogue becomes.
