Erie Pa.-– According to Merriam Webster, a senior is a student in the year preceding graduation from a school of secondary or higher level. In simpler terms I am at the final level of my college career or game and the game is becoming increasingly difficult. The boss level of graduation is coming up faster than I ever anticipated.
In the fall my senior class came back with sun kissed skin and optimism of finishing out their time at Gannon. For some, their graduation was coming in December, but for the rest of us we would still have another semester to battle through.
The fall semester proved difficult trying to keep on task with assignments, attending classes, but also trying to juggle well-being and extra curricular activities. For me this posed to be extremely difficult, and I will admit I had to drop some of the extra commitments I had added on by the spring semester.
For the second semester I was extremely hopeful to make a comeback and fight back graduation boss. This motivation and energy stayed alive right until spring break. T–minus two months away from graduation.
I had come back from spring break drained. I didn’t get the energy boost I was expecting and realized that to finish strong I would need to get my act together. I was starting to force myself to work on assignments before they were due and to attend every single class– even if I wasn’t in the mood.
By the middle of March, I realized that even though motivation and March both begin with the same letter doesn’t mean they go together. I struggled to get out of my apartment some mornings to get to class and began missing the ones that didn’t seem to need my full attention.
Now, I am not saying that all seniors, whether those in high school or those about to graduate college, all face this personal dilemma but for those who have I’m sure you know what this article is referring to. The silent yet final semesterly case of Senioritis.
I won’t lie I have faced this dilemma before. After all I was one of those high schoolers who had to face Covid in my junior year and then have the weirdest senior year of my life. However, this time around, college senioritis is a whole different ballpark. A whole different game.
This time, I currently have 37 days to get all my assignments in, finish final projects, pass my classes, and walk across that stage.
In short, if you or someone you know is going through a case of senioritis remember that the finish line is almost there.
