College students aiming for a bachelors, masters, or doctoral degree will take dozens of classes during their time at university. Whether these classes are focused on language, science, mathematics, or any other subject, or even in-person or online, students are able to enroll in many different types of classes.
Three students this week were asked what their favorite college class has been so far.
Bailey Clements, a junior who studies digital media, says her favorite class is, “My graphics class.”
She adds, “My major is digital media, and I like to use photoshop because it’s a big part of what I’ll be doing in my actual career. Just having all the different creative projects practice is cool, and it’s fun studio time.”
Bruce carpenter, a journalism major in his junior year, states that his favorite class that he’s taken during college is, “Public speaking. My major is journalism, and I want to get into broadcasting. It helps me learn to talk in front of people, and in broadcasting you have to feel comfortable talking.”
Alyssa Tulli, a sophomore social work major, says, “My favorite class so far has been human diversity.”
She adds, “He [the professor] does simulations, so he recreates scenarios so that you don’t only learn about them, but you can feel what it’s like to be discriminated…he put a student out in the hallway, right outside the door, and we had to try and explain why it was wrong. It was so hard, because he could easily rebut what we were saying. We could all feel it was wrong, but we couldn’t say the stuff to get the person to come back into the classroom.”
She also says, “It made you realize that discrimination, stereotyping, and prejudice, when they happen it’s a feeling that you get, and that you may not be able to articulate why it’s happening. Which is why it’s also hard to stop it.”
The American Academy of Arts & Sciences states that in the past, one of the most popular college classes for students to enroll was a freshman composition, followed by general psychology. Chemistry, biology, and sociology classes also made the list for the top ten most popularly enrolled classes.
Out of the dozens of college classes that students take, maybe only a few stick out in people minds after they’ve completed their education. Which college class leaves the most positive impression on you, if any?
