Erie, Pa.— Gannon University is home to over 2,000 students at any given time of year. Within this student body, a variety of different people exist. We are united through our pursuit of education at Gannon University. However, our differences may lie in our ages, career choices, races, faiths, or a plethora of other things. In every aspect that we are different, there is one where we are similar. In RoundTable, we explore the similarities and differences in the thoughts and opinions of Gannon students.
This week, four students were asked about what their overall goals in life are. Gianna Lanzi, a sophomore majoring in early education says, “My goal in life is to become a great teacher, that for little kids, they can look up to.”
Taylor Bommer, a sophomore public heath pre–PA major explains that her goal in life is, “to be as successful as I can be in helping others in the medical field.” Caesar Carbo, a sophomore majoring in biology with a pre–med track, says, “My goals in life are to hopefully graduate, maintain a good GPA so that way I can get into LECOM which is the program I’m in.”
He adds, “Hopefully, I’m a sophomore now, so after my next two years, I’ll be in med–school, the goal is to complete med–school and that’s going to be a challenge within itself. After that, hopefully I’ll get a good match and go to residency. I want to really study psychiatry, that really is my goal, because I have a passion for children or adolescents with ADHD or mental health in general.”
Carbo explains, “That would be my career goals, but as far as my family goals or other goals, I do want to have a strong connection with my family, making sure I’m always making time for them, especially with my busy schedule and life to come. I want to make sure I’m having a perfect work life balance so I can still have fun. And find that balance between work and life so I’m not just losing my head in work all the time, even though it is what I’m passionate about, I’m also passionate about family values and spending time with my friends.”
Meanwhile, Jay Patel, a senior who studies information systems, explains one of his short–term goals. “My goal is to get an internship for IT.” However, for the long–term, he says that his goal is to stay healthy.
Goals can be short–term or long–term, big, or small. Whether they focus on health, school, career, or family, the students of Gannon University have clear ambitions for their futures.
