Erie, Pa – Lady Gaga’s latest single, “Disease,” provides a glimpse into her upcoming project. The recently released track is the lead single from Gaga’s yet–untitled seventh studio album (LG7), which is set to release in February 2025.
The track appears as a dark, dramatic electro–pop song about confronting the inner self. “I think a lot about the relationship I have with my own inner demons. It’s never been easy for me to face how I get seduced by chaos and turmoil. It makes me feel claustrophobic,” she wrote on Instagram following the release of the video accompanying the dark dance–pop track. “‘Disease’ is about facing that fear, facing myself and my inner darkness, and realizing that sometimes I can’t win or escape the parts of myself that scare me. I can try to run from them, but they are still part of me, and I can run and run, but eventually, I’ll meet that part of myself again, even if only for a moment.”
The track was released alongside a cinematic music video directed by Tanu Muino who is known for her extravagant artistic style, with a prominent catalog that includes Dua Lipa’s “Illusion,” Harry Styles’ “As It Was,” and Lil Nas X’s “Montero.” In the video, Gaga confronts a darker version of herself, attempting to gain control as her demon takes form.
The drop has garnered significant attention, particularly from Gaga’s devoted fanbase, the Little Monsters. With its bold, theatrical execution and dark, gothic aesthetic, the project evokes memories of Gaga’s peak era during The Fame Monster and Born This Way.
In addition, a live version of “Die With a Smile,” a duet between Gaga and Bruno Mars, was released on the same evening. For the past couple of months, Gaga has been busy with the press tour for Joker: Folie à Deux, in which she stars as Harley Quinn alongside Joaquin. In September, the mega pop star shared the companion album titled Harlequin, which was marketed as “LG6.5.” Harlequin includes two original tracks and 11 covers.
After a period of swinging back and forth between different genres, audiences believe that LG7 will mark a return to Gaga’s roots, and “Disease” solidifies the direction she is heading toward.
