Erie, Pa. –– The Gannon Golden Knights men’s soccer team soared to its seventh–straight win on Saturday afternoon following a dominating performance against the California (Pa) Vulcans. The Knights, who are ranked 12th in Division II men’s soccer, scored six goals on the road to pick up their eleventh win of the season.
After a scoreless thirty minutes, midfielder #8 Sverre Orten opened the scoring for Gannon with his seventh goal of the season. Despite seven shots on net, the Knights were only able to light the lamp once before the end of the first period but still held the lead.
Just two minutes into the second period, #11 Alander Soares would score his first of two goals during the afternoon. It only took five more minutes to add his second as Soares’ tenth goal of the season gave Gannon a three–goal lead. After picking up an assist on the previous goal, #10 Herman Aanberg would score for the first time in 2024. The senior striker from Norway tied his career–high season point total with 13.
In the closing minutes of the game, the Knights would add two more goals following scores from forward #13 RJ Benedict and #22 Per Kristian Lauvstad, who picked up goals number seven and nine respectively. Gannon would close out and finish with a 6–0 victory over California (Pa).
Gannon’s goalkeeper #20 Andre Moraes would make two saves and record a shutout. The redshirt sophomore has a .790 goals–allowed–average (GGA) and has saved 75% of shots faced.
Meanwhile, Orten would pick up his team–leading 24th point in the victory. The Golden Knights would improve to 11–2–2 and keep their winning streak alive. The team has not lost since September 17 and has not fallen once on the road yet this season.
