Erie, Pa. – Just a month is left before the election in November. On Sunday, September 29, 2024, former President and 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump came here, to Erie, Pennsylvania for a speech at Bayfront Convention Center at 2 p.m. This was his third campaign stop in Pennsylvania in September, after he visited Westmoreland and Indiana Counties.
To begin the speech, he prayed for the victims of Helene Hurricane affected in some southern states, especially in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. After his speech, he visited Georgia and distributed relief supplies for those who were in need.
His speech was mainly about inflation, the economy, and voting. He specifically spent more than an hour on immigration, a hot issue across the country. He showed disagreement with his democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, on her policy of opening borders. He announced that “On day one of my new administration, the invasion ends, and the deportations begin. Get ’em out,.” He voiced his belief that immigration is the most important aspect that will affect voters’ decisions.
He also mentioned his proposal of eliminating taxes on tips and overtime, stating, “I know a lot about overtime. I hated to give overtime. I hate it.” He also promised that if he wins the election, in his first year, he will cut energy prices in Pennsylvania by 50%.
Behind him was a big screen with the phrase “Too big to rig,” which became an important slogan in Trump’s rallies after the 2020 presidential election. This phrase emphasizes the importance of voting. Trump believes that if there are enough Republican voters that come to ballet box on this November 5, Democrats cannot “rig”, as has been claimed.
As usual, during his 2–hour speech, Donald Trump made personal attack on Kamala Harris. He repeatedly criticized Harris for her policies and assumed that she was lying to everyone about the current situations that the U.S has had to face with.
Pennsylvania has been known as a battleground state in the presidential race over the years. In the last three presidential terms, there were lots of changes from this state. In 2012, Pennsylvania voters went for Democrat candidate Barack Obama. In 2016, they changed to Republican candidate Donald Trump and in 2020, they went back to the Democratic candidate, Joe Biden. It is hard to predict the voting result in Pennsylvania.
Therefore, both of nominees have ramped up campaign rallies in Pennsylvania. Donald Trump’s Erie visit is one month after his running mate, JD Vance’s speech about economy and the trucking industry on August 28.
Gov. Tim Walz, the running mate of Kamala Harris, also made a trip to Erie at the beginning of September.
The heat of presidential election is getting more intense than ever, with just one month left to see our next President. Go vote for your nominee because our country’s situation is in your hands.
