Icons and sculptural artwork are scattered throughout Gannon’s Erie campus. These objects become so familiar we tend to walk right past them. Along the way, take time to enjoy the art!

(Kiley )The powerful piece in AJ’s Way named “Resurrection” by Frederick Franck displays a black metal silhouette of a person lying on ground struggling next to the negative cutout of a person rising into power in solidarity of the human ability to rise over all the pain and suffering to be reborn again. (k)As the pathway of AJ’s Way winds around the curve stand two statues, one of a silhouette and the other the cutout of the silhouette staggered throughout the path of a person looking towards the sky. (K)A large Pyramid is displayed in the yard of the I-HACK building named “Triangulum” by artists Thomas Ferraro and Edward F. Grout sparking creativity in students, faculty, and staff that walk past. One face of the pyramid split into two, and the bottom with many unorganized dots creating a web of connections that extend upwards to the top side that consists of a marble diamonds in a grid pattern. (k)The alluring statue “Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Bernadette” was donated by the St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in the courtyard that is surrounded by the Morosky College of Health Professions and Sciences building. The statue displays the peasant girl Bernadette from the village of Lourdes praying to the Blessed Mary. Many Pilgrimages all over the world went to the village of Lourdes to pray for the healing of illnesses and for a deepening of faith. The statue is a tribute to healing mind, body, and spirit. While the students and faculty walk around Morosky the presence of Bernadette and the Blessed Mary serves as a reminder for those pursuing a career in health sciences. (k)The heart of the Morosky Courtyard stands a concrete water fountain surrounded by delicate blossoming flowers. (k)Near the entrance of the Cathedral of St. Paul sits a statue of a figure of a man dressed in a cloak with a cup and a plate filled with a mix of water and fallen leaves from the rainy fall days. The nail holes in his hands allow us to assume that the man is Jesus. Known as “Homeless Jesus” is a representation of faith but also social concerns such as homelessness that plague the Erie population. (K)On the first floor of NASH Library towers a statue of Mary adorned in cloth draping to her feet and holding a dove. At her feet reads “OUR LADY OF WISDOM” possibility a salute to the purpose of the library allowing for a space for students to expand their knowledge. (K)At the heart of Campus displays the most famous statue of Jesus having a conversation with Gannon students while reading scripture that reads “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.” It serves as a reminder to students of Jesus and his teachings are with us always and that we all have bright futures ahead of us through our school careers and the rest of our lives.
