Erie, Pa, February 14, 2023—Since 1976, every United States president has declared February as “Black History Month.” The countries of Canada and the United Kingdom have also partaken in declaring February as “Black History Month,” (History.com)

Gannon University is doing their part in recognizing and honoring Black History Month.

Feb. 15 at 5pm, in Waldron 219, CHESS is holding a panel discussion from some of Gannon’s Black and African American alumni.

This event was held by Parris Baker, Ph.D., who is an associate professor as well as the director of Gannon Universities social work, mortuary, and gerontology department.

The panelists who had attended the event presented photographs from their time at Gannon.

Feb. 20 at 5pm, in Yehl Ballroom, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, as well as Gannon’s Athletics are working together to put on this event for students and faculty.

This program will showcase the firsthand stories from the direct descendant of Josh Gibson through his great-grandson Sean L. Gibson. Through this, more learning opportunities about the history of the Negro League. https://www.gannon.edu/EventDetail.aspx?id=12020

Also, on Feb. 20 at 7pm, in the Jefferson Educational Society Parris Baker Ph.D., will be examining the meaning of the “self-evident truths” based on the political and cultural analytics in 1776, 1963 as well as how it is present in postmodern America. https://www.gannon.edu/shareworthydetail.aspx?id=2527
