Gannon University is collaborating with Thomas Hagen and the Historic Erie Preservation Trust, to restore different buildings on campus.

The plan for the Carter-Shannon House at 203 W. Sixth St. calls for student apartments.

The Frederick Jarecki House at 221 W. Sixth St. will serve as the university’s alumni house, with offices and community spaces for welcoming Gannon alumni back home to campus and Erie.

The third and final home, the Old-Norman House currently located at 216 Seventh St., will be a bed & breakfast style residence for the university once it is complete.

Doug Oathout, chief of staff and director of Marketing and Communications, said the agreement “furthers Mr. Hagen’s vision of a historic district on West Sixth Street that also benefits the university and the community.”

This partnership has been discussed for the past two years. Hagen, chairman of the board of Erie Insurance, has helped with Gannon’s Catholic House and he had an interest in helping with these historic homes as well.
