Popular book series, now popular Netflix series “Bridgerton,” released a second season on March 25 and even at eight episodes, it’s not nearly enough. 

Each episode runs roughly an hour in length, but it always leaves you wanting more.  

To recap, last season’s focus was the Queen’s diamond, who was Daphne Bridgerton, played by Phoebe Dynevor, and the Duke, Simon, played by Rege-Jean Page and the near scandal that followed the two.  

Fans were disappointed to hear that Page would not be returning for season two, his reason being that he wanted to pursue his movie career. Fans are hopeful, though, that he will appear in future seasons. 

For those who love the Duke and Daphne, throughout the second season, Daphne does make appearances and mentions the Duke.  

Rest assured, the Duke and Daphne are happier than ever with their son.  

This season had more of a focus of the Viscount, played by Jonathan Bailey. Throughout the first season, Lady Bridgerton urged the Viscount to marry a respectable lady as it is his duty to the family, being the first born.  

Thus, it was no surprise the focus shifted onto the Viscount, showing the process of him finding his Viscountess.  

The Queen’s diamond this season was a young Miss Edwina Sharma, played by Charithra Chandra.  

It was a scandal in itself to have Edwina as the diamond because her mother, Lady Mary Sharma, and the Queen are not on particularly good terms. But the family had a reputable sponsor, Lady Danbury, played by Adjoa Andoh.  

Lady Mary Sharma has two daughters, only one being biological. The other daughter is Miss Kate Sharma, played by Simone Ashley. Kate and the Viscount have an interesting relationship throughout the series.  

The Viscount has made it his mission to make the Queen’s diamond his Viscountess, though Kate will not make it that easy for him to accomplish. 

With the town’s season in effect, recently silent author Lady Whistledown makes her return. Though we now know who Lady Whistledown is, she is still voiced by well-known actress Julie Andrews.  

Lady Whistledown holds nothing back when writing on the latest scandals, and this is something that the town’s residents are aware of and love. They are always hopeful, though, to never see their own name in the famous gossip sheets. 

Though this season does primarily focus on the Viscount, there are a great deal of other scandals and components that will draw your attention closer and your curiosities wider within the series.  

Throughout this series, they take favorite songs and put a classic rendition of them. Some popular songs include, “Wildest Dreams,” by Taylor Swift, “Sign of the Times,” by Harry Styles, “Material Girl,” by Madonna and “Wrecking Ball,” by Miley Cyrus.  

This show is particularly intriguing to me because I am a huge fan of the Victorian England era. I have always been a fan of Jane Austen and other similar authors, so I expected that I would love this Netflix series based on its setting.  

“Bridgerton” reminds me a great deal of my favorite novel from Jane Austen “Pride and Prejudice,” and I love to compare the two and see what differences and similarities there are between them. 

Between the two seasons, I would definitely say that season one was racier than the latter. There was quite a bit of controversy regarding the overt sexual scenes in the first season, so it made sense they downplayed it throughout the second.  

My favorite episodes were the final three. I without a doubt enjoyed the entirety of the season, but if I had to choose it would be those.  

The final three episodes are jam packed with drama, scandals and romance.  

There are, however, particular parts in this show that I do not agree with, though I have to remind myself of the time period it takes place in.  

The women were told that they had to find suitors or even a husband during the season and their “role” was taught to them since they were a child.  

They are taught to have proper housewife skills and that they are to have children. The men are taught to take over as the family head, if they are the eldest male and their father has passed.  

One thing I can say, though, is that I am glad they got rid of Anthony Bridgerton’s sideburns in the second season.  

What makes this show so enrapturing is all the scandals and romance that occur. Each small scandal leads to a newer and bigger one. Each romance has its own scandal.  

This show is full of scandal, romance and drama, and what could be better in a show? 

Though the second season has just been released, fans are anxiously awaiting the renewal for season three.
