Women’s laccrosse (3-3): The Knights rebounded from back-to-back losses to shut out county-rival Edinboro 23-0 Saturday.

The shutout is only the third time in program history that an opponent has been kept off the scoreboard.

Freshman Caroline Stevens was the star of the victory, leading the winning effort with six goals on eight shots and nine draw controls, which were all team-highs.

As a team, the Knights benefitted from a productive first quarter, putting up 11 goals in that time.

After a 17-6 road loss to Indiana University (Pa.) Tuesday, the Knights will return home to face Seton Hill at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Softball (7-7): The Knights had a mixed batch of games  the past two Fridays, losing both contests to Fairmont State but sweeping Lake Erie College to improve the overall season record to 7-7.

Offense was the main culprit, as the Knights only produced seven hits against Fairmont State, with three in the first game and four in the second.

However, the Knights found their stride against Lake Erie, scoring ten runs in just two games.

Megan Dietrick led the offense in game one, going 3-for-3 with an RBI.

In game two, pitcher Kennedy DeMatteis carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, a series of dominance that propelled the Knights to a win.

In all, DeMatteis only gave up one hit and included four strikouts with just two walks while facing 24 batters.

The Knights will return home to face cross-town rival Mercyhurst in a doubleheader that starts at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Women’s water polo (6-10): The  Knights struggled in the WWPA Conference, only winning once against cross-town rival Mercyhurst while losing two other games.

Nicole Wiemken and Julia Kreidinger each had solid performances in the sole win, with Wiemken scoring eight goals and adding three assists while Kreidinger had four goals and an assist.

The Knights will next compete in the Wittenberg Invitiational Saturday.

Athlete awards & recognitions:

Miguel Vega of the baseball team and Ali Price of the acrobatics & tumbling team have been named Gannon University Student-Athletes of the Week.

Vega was celebrated for his performance against D’Youville in the three-game series.

Meanwhile, Price was recognized for her achievements in the victory over No.11-ranked West Liberty.
