The Gannon women’s swimming and diving team fell short at the Division I Cleveland State University Tri-Meet Saturday.

The Knights faced off against host Cleveland State and Denison University.

Over the course of the day, the Knights totaled 11 top-five finishes; however, it would not be enough, as Cleveland State was victorious against Gannon 165-122 as well as Denison, which won 243-56.

The Knights were led by a string of seniors, including Brynn Driscoll, who added a fourth-place finish in the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 8.49 seconds, and a sixth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke.

Meanwhile, Leilani Kunf placed fourth in the 200 backstroke (2:17.02) and sixth in the 100 back (1:02.71.)

Senior Silvija Taraska had a strong finish to her day, winning the 100 freestyle and also finishing third in the 200 free (53.11.)

In a strong finish for the day, three Knights sprinters placed 5-6-7 within seconds of one another in the 50 freestyle.

Lily Cunningham (25.43), Irati Arzalluz (25.82) and Nomvula Mjimba (25.85) led the charge for the strong 50 free, with Cunningham and Arzalluz swimming strongly in the 100 free behind Taraska.

Aside, other swimmers such as Sterre van de Goor and Chenay Date Line each finished in the top-five, with van de Goor finishing fifth (11:17.57) in the 1,000 free and Date Line finishing fifth in the 500 free (5:18.69.)

Meanwhile, Kyla Miller earned fifth-place honors in the 1-meter diving event with a total of 173.15 points.

In addition, Brittany Miller finished in sixth place 163.15 points and Nicole Spiegel placed seventh with 105.05.

The Knights were scheduled to have a meet Thursday against St. Bonaventure, but that was canceled. The next scheduled events are the Clarion Diving Invitational on Feb. 4 and a dual meet with Penn State Behrend Feb. 5.

On the men’s side, Gannon also fell in both legs, 236-36 to Cleveland State and 221-73 to Denison. The Knights managed eight top-five finishes on the day, including Stephen McCallum, who placed second in the 100 free at 46.70 and Joe Campbell’s third-place effort in the 1-meter diving. McCallum also finished fourth in the 200 free while Andrew Beyer was fourth in the 200 back.

Fifth-place finishers were Justin Decheck (100 back and 100 butterfly) and Kollin Schwab (3-meter diving).
