November 16, 2021
Transgender awareness week, which runs from Nov. 13 through Nov. 19, is a week dedicated to bring attention to the transgender community through education, sharing of experiences and advancing advocacy around the issues the community faces. Here are some ways to support the community during this week and beyond:
Watch:
“Disclosure,” a documentary on Netflix that discusses the history of trans representation in TV and film.
“Gender Revolution: A Journey with Katie Couric,” a documentary from National Geographic that teaches about gender identity, expression and the role of cultural norms.
Read:
“To My Trans Sisters,” edited by Charlie Craggs, a collection of letters by 25 prominent trans women.
“Transgender History: The Roots of Today’s Revolution,” by Susan Stryker, a book about trans achievements from World War I through the 1990s and early 2000s.
