Progress report for Gannon sports: April 7-April 13

Men’s soccer (3-4): Gannon ended its regular season Sunday with a 4-3 loss to Roberts Wesleyan. Sergio Del Castillo had two goals on five shots for the Knights. Del Castillo was Gannon’s top goal scorer this season, netting eight on 32 shots, which also led the team. Lennox Crews was second on the team with nine points.

Women’s soccer (2-1): The Knights defeated Clarion Sunday, 1-0. Kayla Bevacqua had the only goal. Morgan Sinan and Jordan August split the shutout in net, each playing one half. Gannon will play rival Mercyhurst Wednesday.

Acrobatics and tumbling (6-0): No. 5 Gannon ended its first undefeated regular season with two victories at the Concordia Tri-Meet Saturday. The Knights beat Concordia and Trine 266.735-245.645.

Baseball (9-9): Gannon took three out of four games against Clarion over the weekend, sweeping on Friday and splitting the two games on Saturday. Two Knights earned PSAC West player of the week honors in Eric Sapp and Brandon Wetherholt. Sapp was named pitcher of the week after going 2-0 with a 2.31 ERA, and Wetherholt was named hitter of the week after recording 10 hits, two home runs and eight RBIs. Gannon will face Seton Hill on Friday.

Softball (14-8): Softball went 4-0 this past week, defeating Clarion in all four games the teams played. Kaity Stocker and Maria Taliani combined for 13 RBIs to lead the offense in the four games. The Knights will look to keep the momentum going Wednesday against Edinboro.

Women’s water polo (3-12): The Knights went 1-2 this weekend, beating McKendree 13-11 Saturday and then dropping two games to No. 25 Salem and Mercyhurst. Gannon will take part in the Western Water Polo Association Championship April 23-25 to wrap up its season.

Women’s lacrosse (0-6): Gannon’s game against Lock Haven was postponed Saturday. The Knights will look for their first win Wednesday against D’Youville.

Men’s golf: Gannon placed fourth out of six teams at the PSAC championships Friday-Saturday with a team score of 625 after two rounds. Abe Holmes tied for seventh place individually, finishing with a score of 152. Next up for the Knights is the Mercyhurst Spring Invitational Saturday.

Women’s golf: Gannon captured its second consecutive PSAC women’s golf title Saturday, beating Mercyhurst in a playoff hole after tying with the Lakers at 663 through two days of competition. Gannon’s Maria Arenas was the individual leader of the tournament, shooting 160. Sarah White was right behind her, finishing in third place with a score of 163. The Knights will follow up their win by competing at Saturday’s Gannon Spring Invitational.

Football (0-3): The Knights fell to Davenport 37-22 Saturday in their third game of the spring. Sam East scored two touchdowns along with four receptions for 53 yards in the loss. Gannon will look to bounce back Saturday when it travels to Michigan to face Hillsdale.
