UPDATE: Guests allowed at commencement
March 30, 2021
Gannon University announced that the in-person commencement ceremonies in May will now allow graduates to bring guests. Each graduate is now permitted to bring two guests to the ceremony.
This decision comes as a result of Gov. Tom Wolf’s guidance to increase mass gathering maximums, beginning April 4. This announcement allows for the Erie Insurance Arena to be at a 25% capacity, which was not previously permitted.
Gannon also changed the venue of the Ruskin ceremonies to allow enough capacity for guests.
In Erie, three separate ceremonies for 2021 graduates will take place on Saturday, May 8, in the Erie Insurance Arena.
For class of 2020 Erie graduates, a ceremony will take place in-person the following day, Sunday, May 9, since those graduates were not able to have a proper ceremony due to COVID-19. Further details are yet to be released.
In Ruskin, commencement will be at 1 p.m. May 15 at the Bradenton Convention Center.
All ceremonies can be live-streamed or recorded to meet the needs of the graduates and their families during this time.
