The biggest sporting event of the year is now over. Tom Brady has won his seventh Super Bowl.
It’s hard to appreciate greatness when it is right in front of you, but Brady has proven once again that he is one of the all-time greats, if not the greatest to ever play the game.
You can’t argue with his resume. All he’s done is win. This season has put an end to the “system quarterback” criticism that he has gotten all his career.
I’ll admit, earlier this year I wrote that Tampa Bay was not a real contender for the Super Bowl. I don’t know why I ever doubted Brady.
Tampa Bay was able to shut down the best player in the game in Patrick Mahomes, and what a show it was. I think Mahomes and Kansas City will be back, but the same can be said for the Bucs. Why would you doubt that Brady can’t lead them back here next year? He has shown over and over again that Father Time has no control over him.
It really is incredible that we have gotten to witness Brady’s greatness for more than 20 years. Whether you like him or not, you cannot argue against his resume. He has more Super Bowls than any single franchise.
As far as the Super Bowl itself, I thought the spectacle of it all was still there. There is nothing else like it in North American sports. Even with less than 30,000 fans there, it was obvious that this is still the biggest stage in sports for the U.S.
Also, how about that halftime show? I thought The Weeknd was great. The production of the show was very well-executed, and he did it all without any guests.
While the game itself wasn’t all that exciting, it was still a great reminder of how sports can bring together millions of people and distract them from the grind of our daily lives for one night. Sports isn’t the same without fans, and hopefully next year it can be a full stadium for the Super Bowl.
For now, the most popular sport in the U.S. is gone and we must wait until September for the NFL to return, but hopefully by then we can get together at the stadium and not on our couches.
